Westhaven Commences Drilling
On Its Shovelnose Gold Property
October
12, 2011
Vancouver, B.C. October 12, 2011 Westhaven Ventures Inc. (WHN-TSX:V) is
pleased to announce that drilling has commenced on its Shovelnose gold
property, located approximately 30 km south of Merritt, British Columbia. The
program will consist of approximately 800 metres
(2600 feet) of diamond drilling on never before tested, high priority
targets. Completion of the program is expected to be in early November.
The 800 metre drill
program will test six to eight high priority targets ranging from depths of
75 metres to 150 metres.
Drilling will focus on evaluating the Line 6 and MIK showings, where rock
geochemical sampling of siliceous tuff-hosted epithermal-style quartz veins
exposed within mechanized trenches have produced encouraging mineralized
intervals, including: 20 metres of 0.8 grams-per-tonne (g/t) gold (Au), 16.0 metres
of 1.4 g/t Au and 6.0 metres of 5.1 g/t Au.
Drilling is being carried out by Foraco Drilling
Ltd. of Kamloops, BC.
Shaun Pollard, Westhaven's
CFO and Director stated, "We are excited to begin drilling on the
Shovelnose gold property. Westhaven is well funded
to aggressively advance exploration and assess the full potential of this
highly prospective gold project.
Sampling and Prospecting Follow Up
A second phase of prospecting and silt sampling has
commenced to follow up a government Regional Geochemical Survey (RGS) silt
sample that assayed 100 ppb gold and 2700 ppb mercury. This sample is located
approximately 9 kilometres to the northeast of MIK
showing and adds a new exploration facet to the Shovelnose property.
Approximately 25 silt samples will be taken to help delineate areas of
interest on the newly acquired claims.
Shovelnose Gold Property Overview
The 15,953 ha Shovelnose gold property is a Au-Ag epithermal-style exploration target that covers
prospective stratigraphy in the southern Spences
Bridge Gold Belt (SBGB), a 110 km northwest-trending belt of felsic to
intermediate volcanic rocks of the Cretaceous Spences
Bridge group. Surface grab samples have returned values as high as 119.37 g/t
Gold (Au) and 271 g/t Silver (Ag).
Westhaven is currently working to earn up to a 70% interest in the property
from Strongbow Exploration Inc., a TSX-V listed
company. Please refer to the Companys Filing Statement dated June 27, 2011
