OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) _ Devon Energy Corp. (DVN) on Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $408 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Oklahoma City-based company said it had a loss of $1.01. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 83 cents per share.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.10 per share.
The oil and gas exploration company posted revenue of $6 billion in the period, which beat Street forecasts. Analysts expected $4.2 billion, according to Zacks.
For the year, the company reported net income of $1.61 billion, or $3.91 per share, swinging to a profit in the period. Revenue was reported as $19.57 billion.
Devon Energy shares have climbed roughly 9 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 2 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Tuesday, shares hit $66.65, a climb of slightly more than 7 percent in the last 12 months.
