In an article discussing the recent shooting in Orlando, and the associated security implications of guarding against a 'lone-wolf terror threat', Dr Gordon Woo, a catastrophe risk expert with RMS, has offered some insight. He commented that lone-wolf attacks 'have a comparatively small chance of being detected and stopped by counter-terrorist agencies monitoring communications... [but] there are patterns which mean that the risk can be modelled.' He added that 'draconian surveillance' would be needed to suppress such threats, but that 'from an insurance perspective their impact is minimal.'

DMG INFORMATION

Trepp, a leading provider of information, analytics, and technology to the CMBS, commercial real estate, and banking markets, is publishing its latest research on 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly' of the CMBS market thus far in 2016. Falling oil prices and the Fed's first rate hike contributed to an 'ugly' start to 2016, but more positively, in February 2016 the CMBS delinquency rate reached its lowest mark since 2009. Joe McBride, Research Associate at Trepp, commented: '... a post-Brexit delay in the Fed's plans for a rate hike could be a boon for CRE borrowers and CMBS lenders as the year progresses.'

A giant 30ft wide sinkhole opened up just yards from homes at the Towy View Park, near Carmarthen in South Wales this week, serving a stark message to homeowners and highlighting the importance of carrying out ground stability due-diligence as part of the legal conveyancing process. Landmark's suite of legal reports including Homecheck Ground Stability and RiskView Residential, were carried out at the address in question and highlighted the issue of ground stability and provided conclusive evidence of lead mining on site as well as indicating a high likelihood of the property experiencing damage from subsidence relating to non-coal mining activities.

Genscape data is revealing that crude inventories in an area known by oil traders as ARA - Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Antwerp - jumped by more than 3.5m barrels in the week ended 17 June, to the highest levels seen since the company started monitoring in 2013. Paulo Nery, a London-based Senior Director for Oil and Shipping with Genscape, explained: 'There are literally only four near-empty tanks at somewhere between 10 percent and 15 percent. In January there were 18 tanks at less than 15 percent.' Nery added that proof inventories are filling is 'pretty empirical.'

Eric Fell, a Senior Natural Gas Analyst at Genscape, is commenting on trends in the natural gas sector, as gas demand continues to be strong despite rising prices. Fell said: 'These higher natural gas prices have convinced more power generators to burn coal, but gas consumption is still on the rise in the power sector. The amount of both wind and hydropower is declining, causing power generators to burn more of both coal and gas to match high demand for air conditioning during an exceptionally warm June.'

In its 'Things we like' feature, Campaign is praising some of the 'superb splashes' which have appeared on the cover of Metro, under the leadership of Editor Ted Young. His team cleared the front pages to cover the memorial vigil in Soho for victims of the Orlando shooting. And before that Young ran a 'courageous' splash about justice for the Hillsborough victims, 'pointedly' headlined 'The truth', and a full-page photo tribute to the late David Bowie.

Following a recent Email Insider Summit a panel of email marketing experts is advising that brands should not compare their email metrics to industry benchmarks. Gianfranco Cuzziol, head of CRM and data at Zone London, said companies should focus on personal bests, rather than industry benchmarks. Olivia Purton, Commercial Marketing Manager at Zoopla Property Group, revealed that her company's email marketing program is very targeted and granular, so it doesn't make sense to compare their metrics to industry benchmarks.
