CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Encana Corp. (ECA) on Thursday reported a loss of $601 million in its second quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 71 cents. Earnings, adjusted for non-recurring costs and asset impairment costs, came to 10 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 8 cents per share.
The energy company posted revenue of $364 million in the period, missing Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $775.3 million.
Encana shares have increased 57 percent since the beginning of the year. The stock has dropped 9 percent in the last 12 months.
