CALGARY, Alberta (AP) _ Encana Corp. (ECA) on Wednesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $612 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
The Calgary, Alberta-based company said it had a loss of 72 cents per share. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment costs and non-recurring costs, were 13 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of eight analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was breakeven on a per-share basis.
The energy company posted revenue of $1.03 billion in the period, which fell short of Street forecasts. Four analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.14 billion.
For the year, the company reported a loss of $5.17 billion, or $6.28 per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $4.42 billion.
The company's shares closed at $3.01. A year ago, they were trading at $13.18.
