BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) _ Energen Corp. (EGN) on Thursday reported fourth-quarter profit of $65.4 million.

On a per-share basis, the Birmingham, Alabama-based company said it had net income of 89 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 56 cents per share.

The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of 49 cents per share.

The energy holding company posted revenue of $611.4 million in the period, also beating Street forecasts. Analysts expected $340.9 million, according to Zacks.

For the year, the company reported profit of $568 million, or $7.75 per share. Revenue was reported as $1.68 billion.

Energen shares have climbed 4 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $66.31, a drop of 9.5 percent in the last 12 months.
