MONTREAL, QUEBEC--(Marketwire - March 7, 2013) - Pro-Or (News - Market indicators) is pleased to confirm its close collaboration with the global speciality chemicals company, Johnson Matthey. Indeed, over the past year, Pro-Or has established a client relationship on an exploratory basis for the extraction of precious metals of the platinum group from autocatalysts* - mainly Platinum, palladium and Rhodium - with England-based Johnson Matthey. Quantities of material for extraction are now more important and more frequent so Pro-Or ships the ultra-pure concentrate to Johnson Matthey's U.S. plant in New Jersey.
Since February 2012, the refiner Johnson Matthey receives finished products that do not contain glass particles or carbon, deleterious to the hydrometallurgy process. Pro-Or achieves this high-quality extraction due to its extensive knowledge and understanding of chemical interactions and physical properties in the process.
The demonstration plant at St. Augustine treated 2,000 kg of ceramic auto catalysts over the past year in order to make adjustments with certain industrial equipment. These adjustments now support continuous operations, 24 hours and 7 days a week.
Of the 2,000 kg of ceramics, 20 kg of fine metallic powder was extracted and shipped to Johnson Matthey.
*an autocatalyst is an anti-pollution device installed on the exhaust system of every automobile internal combustion engine
About Pro-Or:
Pro-Or operates an industrial prototype plant for the recovery of Platinum Group Elements (Platinum, palladium and Rhodium or PGMs). The plant is located near Quebec City in St-Augustin-de-Desmaures. Its patented process yields more than 97% recoveries of PGMs, is much less capital extensive but is processed much more rapidly than conventional plants. Its mission is to sustainably recover recycled precious metals meeting global standards for the automobile industry.
Pro-Or also holds the mineral rights to six mining properties and has focused its exploration activities on the Menarik property in the James Bay area, in the Province of Quebec, the site of a major chromite deposit with occurrences of gold, nickel, copper and platinum group metals (PGMs).
