Title: Scorpio's First Ever Surface Drilling of Santo Domingo Satellite Deposit Reports Multiple Mineralized Intercepts including 554 g/t Ag, 10.65% Zn, 2.32% Cu, 6.61% Pb and 1.25 g/t Au over 9.60 metres
Vancouver, July 30, 2007 - Scorpio Mining Corporation (TSX:SPM) is pleased to report the first drill results from 2007 surface drilling targeting the Santo Domingo satellite deposit at the Nuestra Señora project, Sinaloa State, Mexico.
The Santo Domingo mineralization is exposed at river level approximately 150 metres southwest of the Santa Teresa occurrence. Both of these satellite deposits are located within 250 metres of the Nuestra Señora deposit and 200 metres southwest and 150 metres below the Candelaria deposit located at the top of the canyon.
Extraction of mineralized material by ASARCO from the Santo Domingo deposit was limited to approximately 40,000 tonnes from an open box cut at surface and 40 metres of underground drifting from river level. The mineralization consists of massive and disseminated coarse galena, sphalerite, pyrite and chalcopyrite in a skarn and breccia matrix of quartz, epidote, actinolite, tremolite and grossularite garnets. There is no evidence that ASARCO undertook any drill testing of the deposit.
Peter J. Hawley, Chairman, CEO reports, "The reported surface drilling of the Santo Domingo deposit consisted of one drill set up with 4 holes being drilled at various azimuths and dips to determine the extent of the mineralization encountered and to give a more defined three dimensional view of the body so future underground drilling from the 6th level, (90 metres vertically below the surface level) can target the zone."
"This now constitutes two successful drill campaigns on the two satellite deposits, Santo Domingo and Santa Teresa (June 25, 2007 news release, Santa Teresa surface drilling reports 16.50 metres grading 116 g/t Ag, 5.30% Zn, 0.28% Cu, 3.44% Pb and 0.207 g/t Au followed by 132 g/t Ag, 3.61% Zn, 0.36% Cu, 3.02% Pb and 0.199 g/t Au over 14.70 metres in same hole), which are proximal to the main Nuestra Señora deposit. Both deposits can be further delineated by underground drilling from the developed Nuestra Señora workings. The Company continues to be impressed with the widespread mineralization on the Nuestra Señora property. Since commencement of exploration, the Company has had success with defining the Nuestra Señora, Candelaria, Santa Teresa, Santo Domingo, Hoag, Sept 9, Main South and Main North zones. Of the 8 zones in total, 4 represent new discoveries."
