TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) _ First Solar Inc. (FSLR) on Thursday reported third-quarter profit of $346.2 million.
On a per-share basis, the Tempe, Arizona-based company said it had profit of $3.38.
The results beat Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of nine analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.52 per share.
The largest U.S. solar company posted revenue of $1.27 billion in the period, also surpassing Street forecasts. Seven analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $1.1 billion.
First Solar expects full-year earnings to be $4.30 to $4.50 per share, with revenue in the range of $3.5 billion to $3.6 billion.
First Solar shares have risen 14 percent since the beginning of the year, while the Standard & Poor's 500 index has risen 1.5 percent. In the final minutes of trading on Thursday, shares hit $50.99, a fall of 9 percent in the last 12 months.
