Fission Focuses 2009 Exploration Program Plans At Waterbury Lake
=======================================================================
FISSION ENERGY CORP. ("Fission" or the "Company") announces that the
Waterbury Lake project, located in Saskatchewan's NE Athabasca Basin,
will continue to have the highest priority. However, due to current
market conditions, the Company has revised its planned 2009 exploration
program to prioritize its efforts specifically on the key projects
within its diverse property portfolio.
At Waterbury Lake, the Company recently announced that its first phase
drill program identified a new zone of mineralization (now known as the
"Discovery Bay Zone"); adjacent to and west of Hathor's "Roughrider
Zone" uranium discovery (see news release September 23, 2008). A new
map highlighting the Discovery Bay Zone has been posted on the
Company's website www.fission-energy.com.
Fission and its Joint Venture Partner, the Korea Electric Power Company
("KEPCO") Consortium, have budgeted ~$4 million in exploration
expenditures for 2009. Initial work is expected to begin shortly after
the New Year, and will include a drill program that will focus
primarily on targets associated with the "Discovery Bay Zone". Fission
Energy is the operator of the Waterbury Lake Project.
Secondly, the Company will focus on its' 100% owned Dieter Lake project
in Quebec, where a NI 43-101 compliant inferred mineral resource
estimate has outlined 24,424,306 lbs of U3O8 at an average grade of
0.057%. The Company has proposed further exploration to follow-up the
mapping, prospecting and geophysical work completed in 2007-2008. The
planned field program is expected to begin next spring. Recently, Quest
Uranium Corporation announced uranium grades as high as 25.4% U3O8 on
its Sannon-Seggau properties located to the south-west, which has added
a renewed interest in the region.
Other important projects which include: Duddridge Lake (SK), Patterson
Lake (SK), Zoo Bay (SK) and North Shore (AB), have had sufficient
exploration expenditures to keep them in good standing beyond 2009.
Further exploration has been deferred, with future funding for these
projects to be reviewed and evaluated on an on-going basis.
In summary, despite the prevailing uncertainty in the stock and credit
markets, Fission, after reviewing its operational capability, is
confident that it can continue to advance its primary uranium
exploration projects in 2009.
