COEUR D`ALENE, Idaho (AP) _ Hecla Mining Co. (HL) on Tuesday reported a fourth-quarter loss of $63 million, after reporting a profit in the same period a year earlier.
On a per-share basis, the Coeur d`Alene, Idaho-based company said it had a loss of 17 cents. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to 2 cents per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of six analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 2 cents per share.
The precious metals company posted revenue of $115.3 million in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $123.9 million.
For the year, the company reported a loss of $87 million, or 23 cents per share, swinging to a loss in the period. Revenue was reported as $443.6 million.
The company's shares closed at $2.34. A year ago, they were trading at $3.44.
