U.S. stocks closed higher Friday, marking the third straight week of gains for the market. Investors mostly focused on the latest company earnings news as they searched for insight into how the global economy is doing. Health care and consumer staple stocks were among the biggest risers.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 9.25 points, or 0.5 percent, to 2,033.11.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 16.59 points, or 0.3 percent, to 4,886.69.

The S&P 500 index is up 18.22 points, or 0.9 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 56.22 points, or 1.2 percent.

The Dow is down 607.10 points, or 3.4 percent.
The S&P 500 index is down 25.79 points, or 1.3 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 150.63 points, or 3.2 percent.
