U.S. stocks logged their biggest gain in three months on Monday, as energy stocks followed the price of oil sharply higher. Industrial stocks also rose after Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway said it was acquiring Precision Castparts for about $32 billion.
For the day:
The Dow Jones industrial average rose 241.79 points, or 1.4 percent, to 17,615.17.
The Standard & Poor's 500 index gained 26.61 points, or 1.3 percent, to 2,104.18.
The Nasdaq composite climbed 58.25 points, or 1.2 percent, to 5,101.80.
For the year:
The Dow is down 207.90 points, or 1.2 percent.
The S&P 500 index is up 45.28 points, or 2.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 365.74 points, or 7.7 percent.
