Stocks closed slightly higher on Monday after spending most of the day in the red. A slide in crude oil prices weighed on energy stocks, which ended almost 2 percent lower.

The Nasdaq composite climbed 18.78 points, or 0.4 percent, to 4,905.47.

The S&P 500 index is down 25.24 points, or 1.2 percent.
The Nasdaq is up 169.42 points, or 3.6 percent.
