A consortium formed by Indra (50%) and Alstom España (50%) has won the contract to install public safety and security systems in the six tunnels on the high-speed rail link connecting Antequera and Granada. The contract also includes system maintenance for a period of 42 months.
Over 100 km long, the rail link represents a key infrastructure in the development of the Andalusian Crossrail Project and forms part of the Trans-European Transport Network as one of the priority networks for improving passenger and cargo transportation throughout the EU. It will link Madrid to Granada in under three hours.
The facilities that Indra and Alstom will supply for the tunnels on the rail link include among other systems emergency signaling and lighting, energy, communications, ventilation, fire detection, water supply and the vestibule pressurization systems for the emergency exits.
The combined efforts of Indra and Alstom España for this project reinforce the experience gained by the joint venture in similar projects for the Spanish rail network. Specifically, infrastructure teams from the two companies have equipped and maintained the electromechanical facilities in 32 tunnels along the rail link between Ourense and Santiago de Compostela and in the tunnels on the Pajares section, and they have also maintained four tunnels along the rail link connecting Madrid and Valladolid (including the Guadarrama tunnel, which at 28.8 km is the longest in Spain). Alstom España is also currently involved in maintaining the facilities in the Abdalajis tunnels, and in tunneling the Málaga section of the high-speed rail link between this city and Córdoba.
In the field of railway signaling, the two companies have joined forces with Bombardier to implement their technology on the high-speed railway between Valladolid and Burgos and on the Plasencia-Badajoz section of the high-speed rail link connecting Madrid and Extremadura.
