Los Andes Intersects 220 Metres Grading 0.52% Cu and
0.015% Mo in Ongoing Drilling at the Vizcachitas Project

Includes 44 metres grading 0.85% Cu and 0.015% Mo

October 2, 2007

Vancouver, BC - Los Andes Copper Ltd. ("Los Andes", or the "Company", TSX Venture Exchange: LA) announces the results for six holes from the Phase I drilling program at the Vizcachitas copper-molybdenum property in Chile. The aim of the drill program is to confirm the historical drilling carried out in the 1990s; to upgrade inferred resources to the indicated category; and to test for extensions of the known mineralization to the south and east (See News releases dated May 15 and July 7, 2007).

All six holes intersected significant mineralization, including 220 metres grading 0.52% copper and 0.015% molybdenum (0.61% Cu Equivalent*) that included a higher grade interval of 0.85% Cu and 0.015% Mo (0.95% Cu Equivalent*) between 36 and 80 metres in hole LAV-72. Highlights of the copper and molybdenum grades encountered in all six holes are listed in the table below. Drill hole location maps, sections and photos of drill core can be viewed at the Los Andes website www.losandescopper.com.

*Copper equivalent is calculated for Mo values greater than 0.01% using US$1.50/lb Cu and US$10.00/lb Mo according to the formula CuEq% =Cu% + (Mo% x 10.00/1.50) and is not adjusted for metallurgical recoveries or net smelter return which remain uncertain and are assumed to be 100%.

Roger Moss, President and CEO of Los Andes commented as follows: "We are very pleased with the latest results from the ongoing drilling at Vizcachitas. Higher grade intervals in LAV-68 and LAV-72 suggest the possibility of a high grade zone in the southwest. LAV-82, collared 100 metres southeast of LAV-72, is currently being drilled to test the potential of this possible zone. Holes LAV-70 and LAV-75 drilled to test the periphery of the currently known mineralized area both came up with 0.4% Cu over significant widths indicating potential to expand to the east and west, respectively."

Discussion of results
LAV-67 and LAV-68 are infill holes located to the west of the Rio Rocin on Section 1200NE. LAV-67 was drilled to the east at an inclination of -80 to a total depth of 240 metres. It intersected primary sulphide mineralization (chalcopyrite and pyrite with minor covellite and chalcocite) in altered granodiorite and diorite. The higher molybdenum grades in this hole, grading 0.031% Mo over 76 metres, is due to well developed molybdenite contained in quartz veins.

LAV-68 was collared 200m southeast of LAV-67 and drilled at -70 to the northwest. Primary mineralization occurs throughout the hole which intersected alternating granodiorite and diorite. Chalcocite occurs as partial replacement of pyrite down to a depth of 145 metres.

LAV-69, collared approximately 200m north of LAV-68, was also drilled at -70 to the northwest to fill a large gap in the previous drilling. The hole intersected variably altered diorite, with moderate to strong sulphide mineralization in the upper portion of the hole.

LAV-70 was drilled at -75 to the southeast to test the eastern margin of the known mineralization. The hole intersected variably mineralized andesite, over the entire length.

LAV-72 was collared 100 metres south of LAV-68 and drilled on -70 to the northwest, to test the southwestward extension of the high grade mineralization intersected in LAV-68. The hole intersected porphyritic andesite in the top of the hole, followed by granodiorite to the end of the hole at 250 metres. Chalcocite and covellite, in addition to chalcopyrite, occur in the drill core over the first 50 metres beneath the overburden.

LAV-75 was drilled at an inclination of -65 to the northwest to test the western margin of the mineralization. The hole encountered granodiorite and diorite with quartz-sericite alteration typically overprinting a biotite-magnetite-chlorite assemblage. The upper 48 metres of granodiorite is partially leached, with resulting low grades. Copper grade increases thereafter due to stronger chalcopyrite mineralization.

Roger Moss, Ph.D., P.Geo, is the qualified person as defined by national Instrument 43-101 for the Vizcachitas Project. Logging, sampling and splitting of the drill core is conducted at the Vizcachitas site by independent consultants Geologica LTDA. under the direct supervision of geologist Ramon Fam. Samples are securely transported by Geologica staff to the SGS Laboratory in Santiago Chile and analyzed for copper and molybdenum by atomic absorption following a three acid digestion. Los Andes routinely inserts standards and blanks into the sample stream and sends 5% of sample rejects to Actlabs for check analysis.

About Vizcachitas
The Vizcachitas Project offers potential for a low strip, open pit operation in an area of low elevation with excellent infrastructure, including water and power in central Chile. The Vizcachitas deposit occurs in the same metallogenic belt as the large copper-molybdenum porphyries Rio Blanco-Los Bronces, Los Pelambres-El Pachon and El Teniente. Based on 68 drill holes previously completed by General Minerals Corporation and Placer Dome, the project contains an indicated resource of 144 million tonnes grading 0.52% copper and 0.015% molybdenum and an inferred resource of 211 million tonnes grading 0.46% copper and 0.016% molybdenum, at a 0.40% copper cut-off, as detailed in the NI43-101 compliant technical report of A.C.A. Howe International Limited dated February 7, 2007. The technical report, as well as additional information about the Vizcachitas Project is available on our website at www.losandescopper.com.
