Tirex Resources
(TXX:TSXv) - Opportunity in Albania
Some things are so promising that you want to dig
deeper.
That's true in life. It's true in exploratory mining. And it's true
for a promising play in underdeveloped Albania by the seasoned managers
and geologists at Tirex Resources of Canada.
Tirex appears to have a "stand out" profit opportunity.
Before taking a direct look, let me lay out some criteria. Anyone
considering an exploration play should be asking the following
questions:
1. Does the company have a
seasoned team that combines the right balance of expertise in the
relevant geology and senior management?
2. Are they using the latest
techniques and tools of exploratory geology appropriate to the area?
3. What are the relevant track
records of the team members?
4. If it is a foreign venture, is
the company working with seasoned local nationals who know the
language, laws, geology, and mining experiences of the area?
5. Does the history of other
geologic finds in the area have promise for future finds?
Mining exploration is one part science and some unknown quantity of
art. Geophysicists are often working with samples that represent 1 in
10 billionth of a deposit. Every deposit is different. If you have
invested in an exploration play before, you know it is only
for the risk-tolerant.
That said, not all risks are the same. Technology has made some great
advances in exploration. UTEM geophysical surveying, for instance, can
help identify deposits that would normally be out reach for traditional
surveying techniques. But even the cutting edge techniques are of
limited value in the hands of young grad students. Technology is
essential; experience is, by far, more critical.
The Tirex Albanian Mirdita project has the experience and meets the
above criteria in every respect.
Taking a Deeper Look at Tirex
Tirex Resources is a junior mining company with senior credentials.
Tirex is targeting copper, zinc, gold and silver in a recently
acquired, 344 km2 (214 mi2) concession in Albania. Due to its political
isolation through much of the last century, Albania has not been
explored using modern techniques. This gives Tirex a rare advantage.
Tirex is the first exploration company on the scene using an aerial
electromagnetic geophysical survey. This
state-of-the-art technology is in the hands of highly qualified
engineers and geophysicists.
Meet The Field Team
The Tirex field team is led by John Nicholson and Brian Game. Together,
John and Brian have 40 years of experience and a long track record of
success. This rugged duo ran a challenging field program in the subzero
icescapes of the Arctic. By comparison, the Albanian project is a cake
walk.
John and Brian are assisted by Allen Miller, Ph.D. Dr. Miller has over
20 years of experience working for the Geological Survey of Canada
between 1973 and 1997. He has published over 138 articles and is a
frequent speaker at geological forums.
For the last 10 years, Dr. Miller has worked as a consultant
on numerous international projects in the Americas, Russia, China, the
Middle East, and Australia. Not only has he learned the varied
geography on multiple continents, he also has developed experience working
with multi-cultural teams.
Dr. Miller is a renowned expert on a variety of ore deposits,
including lode gold, structural and stratabound uranium types, and,
most importantly, volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits. The
Tirex property in Albania reportedly has seventeen known VMS deposits
according to historical reporting. Dr. Miller is clearly a
tremendous asset for this project.
Leadership and Oversight
George Gorzynski is the principle engineer of the Canadian team. George
brings 25 years of international exploration experience. Among his
other achievements, he was instrumental in identifying large
silver deposits near the Royal Mines of Zacualpan in
Mexico. Working for IMPACT silver on this project, he took it
from a mining shell to a silver producer.
Tirex has also engaged a high calibre local geology team.
Professor Perparim Alikaj, Ph.D., head of geophysics at Polytech
University of Albania, has assembled a team of Albanian
geologists to work with the Canadian field team. Dr. Alikaj is credited
with the invention of Real Section Induced Polarization, a technology
that was used to discover the largest ore deposit in San Nicolas. He
is an expert on the Albanian geology and has consulted
in mineral exploration all over the world.
Promising Data
The historic data for the area are highly promising. I am not a
geologist so I cannot provide you with a thorough analysis. I can
only say, the data are worthy of your attention. There are two
technical reports available at Sedar for further investigation.
Big Players Taking Interest
This positive data combined with the highly experienced
exploration team has caught the interest of consequential players in
the industry.
R. Stuart "Tookie" Angus took the role as Chairman of the
Board last week. Tookie is a business advisor to the mining industry
and is considered an expert in the finance and structure of junior
companies. A quick look at Tookie's personal summary on the TSX
infoventure site will show you he is a highly coveted individual. He
has been director or chairman on the board at over 25 companies,
including First Quantum and Canico. I'm calling him Tookie, but you
know they call him Mr. Angus at meetings.
Tookie has expanded the already impressive Tirex team by adding another
25 years of experience with Bill Weymark. He has been described as a
technical guy with a tremendous, well-honed business savvy.
Bill was the CEO at Vancouver Wharves/BCR Marine, where he managed
1,200 employees. Bill was also the general manager at the worlds
largest open pit lead-zinc mining, which employed over a thousand
people.
Tirex has offered Bill 225,000 incentive stock options at the
exercise price of $2.75 per share. This should catch your attention.
Why? That's not a big incentive for someone of Mr. Weymark's stature
unless he thought the stock price had some serious potential.
Tookie and Bill's interest and involvement with Tirex is an excellent
sign. This is definitely one opportunity to watch and one that may well
re-pay the time you take when you dig deeper at http://www.tirexresources.com/s/Home.asp.
You can dig further by examining their public documents at Sedar.
Legal Postscript
One last word: it is important to consider the sources of information
when evaluating an exploration play. Tirex Resources is an advertiser
on The Market Traders site. I write for The Market Traders site.
Therefore, you need to do your own due diligence to decide if this is
the right investment for you. If you are not a geologist, I recommend
consulting with one. Whatever you decide, keep an eye on this one.
