MARKET COMMENTARY FOR NOV 8, 2012

Well... we knew things were sliding as we wrote yesterday, but the market impact was pretty surprising. Rather than the easy way of saying, "the market would have preferred Romney", we will take a different spin on things. Not at any point in the campaigning were the probabilities of Romney winning greater than those of Obama. No matter which measure you choose to look at (ie. Intrade contracts, polls, or independent analysts like Nate Silver). Not to say that the market is always absolutely efficient, but there is a greater wealth of analysis about US presidential elections than almost anything else out there (with the possible exception of NFL fantasy football).
