• Essential work to maintain safe and reliable gas supplies due to start on Monday 1 February 2016
• Work split into two phases: February to April and May to September
• Road and bus route diversions are required but local businesses and shops will remain open as normal throughout work
National Grid will begin essential gas mains replacement work in King's Road on Monday 1 February 2016.
Engineers are due to start replacing ageing metallic gas mains with new, more durable pipes. To ensure they can carry out the work safely and efficiently traffic management will be needed. King's Road will be made into a one-way road eastbound, between Stanley Bridge and Edith Grove.
The work is due to last eight months and will be divided into two phases as follows:
Phase One: February to April 2016
King's Road will be closed westbound between Gunter Grove and Edith Grove. .
Phase Two: May to September 2016
King's Road will be closed westbound between Stanley Bridge and Gunter Grove.
Appropriate signed diversions will be in place during both phases of the work. There will also be changes to some bus routes. Some bus stops will be temporarily closed with convenient alternative stops instated.
The relevant information will be displayed at the existing stops and at www.londongasmains.co.uk
Pavement access will be maintained throughout the work with clearly signed pedestrian routes.
National Grid Engineering Manager Stuart Donaldson said: 'National Grid has co-ordinated this work with the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and Transport for London to ensure it has as little impact on residents, businesses and road users as possible..
'We've worked together to carefully plan the road and bus route diversions needed to do our work safely and efficiently and local businesses will remain open as usual throughout the work.'
He added: 'It's important that we replace and upgrade these ageing gas mains so National Grid can continue to supply local people with safe and reliable energy supplies.'
National Grid will use innovative technology to insert the new pipes into the old mains wherever possible. This will reduce the need for digging and mean the work can be carried out faster.
The local community is being kept informed and local residents and businesses have been sent letters with details and a map of the diversion routes.
