Atlas Iron Limited (ASX: AGO)
ASX RELEASE 3 OCTOBER 2008
PARDOO RECIEVES ENVIRONMENTAL APPROVAL
Atlas Iron Limited (ASX Code: AGO) is pleased to announce that the company has now received final environmental approval from the Minister for Environment, for the Pardoo DSO Project. Atlas owns the Pardoo Iron Ore Project 100% located 75 kilometres by road from the port of Port Hedland, in the Pilbara of Western Australia.
?We are very happy. The entire team have done a great job. Every employee, consultant or contractor associated with the project has made a significant contribution and they are all to be congratulated.? commented Atlas Managing Director, David Flanagan.
?Atlas is the first company to take advantage of third party port and rail infrastructure access in the history of mining in the Pilbara. We look forward to working with the Western Australian State Government, other members of the North West Iron Ore Alliance and the iron ore majors to ensure there are many more to come.?
Iron Ore operations have existed in the traditional country of the Ngarla Indigenous people for more than 40 years. The commencement of the Pardoo Mining Operation represents the first time they have been engaged with as a real stakeholder in an iron ore mine. This is a significant milestone for Traditional Owners in the Pilbara and we hope to achieve similar levels of engagement with other groups as we commission additional mining operations.
Atlas would like to acknowledge the incoming WA State Government, including Hon Kim Hames Deputy Premier and Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, Hon Norman Moore, Minister for Mines, the Hon Donna Faragher, Minister for Environment and for their assistance in facilitating final approval for the Pardoo Iron Ore Project. We look forward to working further with the Government as we advance the upgrade of the Pardoo Project to 3MTPA the initial approval for the Abydos project to operate at 3MTPA, both due late this year.
Off take agreements are at a very mature stage. Atlas? iron ore marketing team is currently working to finalise off take agreements and we expect to disclose those arrangements very shortly.
