Pipeline replacement project underway in Sellersburg, Charlestown; secondary line will provide continued service reliability
Charlestown, Ind. - Vectren Energy Delivery (Vectren) recently began the first phase of a $3.8 million project in the Sellersburg and Charlestown areas. Crews working for Vectren are performing system improvements to the area's natural gas distribution and transmission pipeline infrastructure, which include the construction of a secondary distribution line to ensure continued service reliability when performing testing on pipelines in the area. This project is one of several gas pipeline enhancements being made during Vectren's multi-year plan to modernize its gas infrastructure throughout Indiana.
"To ensure the continued safety and reliability of our natural gas pipeline systems and service, Vectren is continuing to modernize our system in the Vectren North territory," said Mike Roeder, Vectren Energy Delivery of Indiana - North president. "These infrastructure enhancements are vital to meeting federal requirements."
Phase One (in progress)
A six inch natural gas distribution line is being installed along County Road 403 from Speed Station to
Charlestown Station and Stacey Road from County Road 403 South to Goldrush Boulevard. Once installed, the new line will provide a secondary feed to Charlestown, which will improve service reliability. This work is set to be completed by the end of July.
Phase Two
Approximately five miles of transmission line stretching from Speed Station to Charlestown Station will be pressure tested to validate the integrity of the pipeline. Additionally, a section of this pipeline which crosses
Silver Creek will be rerouted due to a bridge replacement, which the existing main is attached to. Phase two
is set to begin in August and should wrap up mid-October.
A small number of customers will be affected during construction and were notified prior to the start of work. Upon completion of the project, affected yards, sidewalks and streets will be restored. If customers still have questions, they are encouraged to contact Customer Service at 1-800-227-1376. For a project map of the affected area, click here.
