Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group Awarded DOE Contract to Provide Energy Savings Performance Contracts to the Federal Government
BALTIMORE, Jan 07, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) --
Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group announced today that it has been awarded an Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity Energy Savings Performance Contract (ESPC) by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). The contract enables Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group to continue to conduct energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation projects at federally-owned buildings and facilities.
"The DOE ESPC contract ensures that we will be able to continue its work in helping the federal government, the largest single user of energy in the United States, to improve energy and water efficiencies," said Greg Jarosinski, president of Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group. "We have a long and successful history of developing environmentally-sound energy projects for the federal government that are funded entirely with the savings created by the projects."
The new DOE ESPC contract enables all federal sites worldwide to utilize the energy services expertise of Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group. The award replaces several regional and technology specific contracts already held by Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group to provide ESPC services in the Midwest and Mid Atlantic regions and biomass, alternative methane fuels and geothermal heat pump technologies to federal sites.
DOE estimates that the ESPC contracts with all contractors could result in up to $80 billion in energy efficiency, renewable energy and water conservation projects. The term of the DOE ESPC contract is five years with two optional three year extensions.
ESPCs enable federal agencies to undertake energy savings projects without paying up-front capital costs. Under an ESPC, Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group designs, constructs and obtains the necessary financing for an energy savings project, and the federal agency makes payments over time from the energy cost reductions.
The DOE ESPC contract also enables federal facilities to utilize renewable energy technologies, an area of particular focus for Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group, which has a renewable project portfolio that includes solar, wind, geothermal and biomass. The company has recently initiated approximately 5 megawatts of on-site solar power systems for customers throughout the U.S., and has also deployed more than 30 geothermal projects that deliver nearly 12,000 tons of cooling capacity.
Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group (www.ceprojects.com) is the energy services arm of North America's largest retail and wholesale energy company, Constellation Energy (NYSE:CEG).
