(The following is an example of notable trading cited on optionMONSTER's InsideOptions Pro service yesterday.)
Global growth is back in play, and traders are already racking up the winners.
optionMONSTER's tracking systems detected significant call volume yesterday in the iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Fund, which tracks equities in countries like China, Korea and Taiwan. Activity initially focused on the Weekly 36.50s expiring on Dec. 4, with 15,000 contracts bought for $0.38 to $0.40.
EEM moved higher as the session progressed and those options appreciated 50 percent to $0.60. Long calls lock in the price where shares can be purchased, which lets investors profit from rallies with limited capital at risk. Their cheap cost can also generate significant leverage, as we saw yesterday. (See our Coaching section)
EEM closed the session up 1.32 percent to $36.03. It's been on the rise since August as China stabilizes and oil muscles higher. There's also been heavy buying recently in metals and energy, which tend to follow global sentiment. Late Tuesday we cited bullish paper in the Market Vectors Russia Fund (RSX) as well.
Options volume surged in EEM as the fund advanced, ending the day at almost quadruple typical amounts.
