VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire -
Sept. 16, 2008) - NaiKun Wind Energy Group Inc.'s (TSX VENTURE:NKW)
wholly-owned subsidiary, NaiKun Wind Development Inc.
("NaiKun"), announced today that it has expanded its
engineering team by including Offshore Design Engineering Ltd.
("ODE"), one of the world's leading offshore wind project
engineering consultants, to play a major role in designing and
constructing its wind energy project in Hecate Strait, off the northern
coast of British Columbia, Canada. ODE joins Sandwell Engineering Inc.
("Sandwell") in providing engineering and project management
services for the NaiKun project.
ODE will assist the NaiKun team with its operations planning and brings
considerable European experience in offshore wind projects, from the
planning phase through to construction and operation. Specifically, ODE
will provide project management services supporting the preliminary
design phase of the project including the preparation of detailed cost
and schedule estimates, as well as logistics and construction planning.
Sandwell has assisted NaiKun with transmission and interconnection
reports, the design and installation of a marine meteorological station
in Hecate Strait and studies to determine site conditions at the
project location. Sandwell brings local expertise as well as extensive
offshore design and construction experience. Sandwell will continue to
provide engineering services supporting the preliminary design phase of
the project.
"NaiKun is extremely pleased to have both ODE and Sandwell as
members of our project team," said Paul Taylor, NaiKun's President
and CEO. "Together they will provide an extremely strong
engineering team that is experienced in both offshore wind projects and
West Coast marine environments. We view this collaboration as a very
important step in bringing the first phase of our project to
fruition."
"Sandwell has provided invaluable support over these last two
years and we look forward to their continued involvement as we enter a
critical stage in our project's development. Also, as a world leader in
the development of offshore wind energy projects, ODE will help move
the province of British Columbia closer to its goal of energy
self-sufficiency," Taylor added.
"NaiKun's wind energy project is an exciting opportunity for ODE
to bring its expertise and experience to North America's Pacific
coast," said Peter Godfrey, Chairman and Managing Director of ODE.
"NaiKun has assembled an outstanding team, its project plans are
unique and the proposed site is one of the best we have seen for
offshore wind energy development."
"We look forward to our continued involvement in the NaiKun
project," said Dave Kaukinen, Vice President and General Manager,
Energy and Infrastructure Division of Sandwell Engineering Inc.
"This is an excellent project and it will make an important
addition to B.C.'s existing renewable energy resources."
