April 21 Movers and Shakers in Utilities, Coal, and Solar (Part 3 of 3) (Continued from Part 2) Solar ETF gains
The Guggenheim Solar ETF (TAN) gained 0.9% on April 21. American solar stocks account for 47% of the fund’s holdings, and Chinese solar stocks account for another 44%. Hanergy Thin Film Power Group is the fund’s biggest holding, with just over 11% weight.
While TAN gained, the broad-based SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust (SPY) lost 0.1%.
Top gainers
- Trina Solar (TSL) gained 2.5% to end the day at $12.51 with a market capitalization of $1.15 billion.
- Canadian Solar (CSIQ) gained 1.7% to finish at $35.85 with a market capitalization of $2 billion.
- First Solar (FSLR), the leader in thin-film technology, gained 1.4% to close the day at $63.11 with a market capitalization of $6.36 billion.
- SunPower Corp. (SPWR), the leader in distributed solar power, gained 1.2% to end the day at $34.46 with a market capitalization of $4.53 billion.
Top losers
The top three losers of the day in the sector were these American Depository Receipts, or ADRs, of Chinese companies that trade on American stock exchanges:
- ReneSola (SOL) was the biggest loser with a 2.7% drop. The ADR closed at $1.83 with a market capitalization of $186 million.
- China Sunergy (CSUN) closed 2% lower at $1.98 with a market capitalization of $29.4 million.
- Yingli Green Energy (YGE) dropped 1.5% to close at $1.97 with a market capitalization of $358.1 million.
- Green Plains (GPRE) lost 1.3% to finish at $30.61 with a market capitalization of $1.16 billion.
