DENVER (AP) _ Whiting Petroleum Corp. (WLL) on Wednesday reported a loss of $301 million in its second quarter.
On a per-share basis, the Denver-based company said it had a loss of $1.33. Losses, adjusted to extinguish debt and for non-recurring costs, were 70 cents per share.
The results missed Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 48 cents per share.
The oil and gas company posted revenue of $339.6 million in the period, also falling short of Street forecasts. Ten analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $379 million.
Whiting shares have dropped 22 percent since the beginning of the year. In the final minutes of trading on Wednesday, shares hit $7.35, a decrease of 65 percent in the last 12 months.
