NEWS RELEASE

Hana Mining Ltd. reports positive results from a preliminary groundwater investigation, supporting Ghanzi project.

September 15, 2009 (Vancouver, British Columbia). Hana Mining Ltd., (TSX-V: HMG) (Frankfurt: 4LH) is pleased to announce results from a desk-top hydrogeology study, produced by Namib Hydrosearch of Windhoek, Namibia, investigating known and potential groundwater sources in proximity to the Company's Ghanzi copper-silver project in Botswana. Key findings of the study are:

  • The region exhibits favourable geology to host large aquifers,
  • There are numerous active water-producing aquifers in the vicinity of the Ghanzi property, supporting local towns and agricultural/grazing activities,
  • Two groundwater sources have been identified as likely project water sources; the Karoo Supergroup and Ghanzi Group aquifers, and three specific groundwater resource targets have been established within those known aquifers for more specific exploration,
  • Within the Karoo Supergroup, the Bodibeng Sandstone and Ecca Group aquifers to the northwest of the Ghanzi property offer the most promising targets, and
  • The Ecca Group aquifer (within Karoo Supergroup) has recently been shown to yield sufficient water volumes to support mining activity approximately 50 kilometers to the west of the Ghanzi property.

The regional groundwater investigation, conducted by Namib Hydrosearch, included a comprehensive review of published groundwater investigation reports pertaining to the general area surrounding the Ghanzi property. The team also reviewed borehole yield data and water quality information provided by the Botswana national groundwater database, as well as from Hana's resource drilling boreholes, which frequently produce water. Water quality sampling on open holes is continuing. From this work, potentially useful groundwater aquifers can be identified and assessed, with the objective of securing a sustainable 10,000 m3/day water source to support future mining operations. The study identified three target areas for further research and active testing, which is planned for Q1/Q2 2010.

Namib Hydrosearch has been providing technical and project management hydrology services for mineral exploration, groundwater, and environmental projects in Africa for 19 years. The company has done extensive work in the public sector with Namibian government agencies, and also operates in Angola, Botswana, Malawi and Zambia.

Hana Mining's President, Peter Wilson, commented as follows:

"We are pleased with the early results of our groundwater investigation work. We have been aided by the considerable amount of local knowledge and prior investigative work that has been done to study groundwater in and around our property. From our investigation we now have multiple prospective targets for more concentrated investigation and borehole drilling, which will drive the next phase of our water program, to begin early next year."

About Hana Mining's Ghanzi Copper-Silver Project in Botswana

The Ghanzi Project is located in the center of the Kalahari copper belt in northwestern Botswana. The country of Botswana is considered by the Fraser Institute Annual Survey of Mining Companies 2009 country ranking study to offer the most attractive mineral exploration and investment climate in Africa. The Ghanzi property covers 2,200 sq. km., and contains sediment-hosted copper-silver deposits with a demonstrated cumulative strike length of over 16 kilometres. This favourable geology extends over the entire strike length of 600 kilometres Hana Mining recently released results of it's first NI 43-101 resource estimate for the Ghanzi Project (see press release dated June 1, 2009), announcing an inferred resource of 2.9 Billion lb. of copper and 51.1 Million oz. of silver from 163.5 million tonnes. The resource is based on a 0.30% Cu cutoff grade, and averages 0.82% Cu and 9.8 g/t Ag.

The project will benefit from contemplated rail/power infrastructure expansions, along with proximity to local population centers and workforce. A feasibility study is currently underway (funded by the World Bank and the governments of Botswana and Namibia) to support completion of a rail line link that would connect Botswana with the Namibian port of Walvis Bay, on the Atlantic coast. The planned 600MW expansion of the government-owned Moropule Power Plant continues to advance, with US$825 million project funding secured in May 2009, and key supply contracts awarded. Currently, our project is served by the paved trans-Kalahari highway, which passes within 15 km of the property.

Hana Mining is focused on demonstrating that the Ghanzi property represents one of Africa's premier future copper-silver resources.
