| Apple Gives $50M to Aid Women, Minorities - Analyst Blog | |

Following the launch of Apple Watch, Apple Inc. AAPL is now focusing on enhancing the diversity in Silicon Valley by employing more women, members of minority communities and war veterans. In a recent interview with Fortune, Apple’s human resources chief, Denise Young Smith, revealed that the company is planning to join forces with several non-profit organisations and would invest over $50 million to create job opportunities for women and minorities at Apple. The iPhone maker is collaborating with the National Center for Women and Information Technology (NCWIT) to double the number of college graduates supported by the organization. Apple will donate nearly $10 million over the next four years to NCWIT, the largest donation that the organization has received to-date. In addition, Apple is planning to offer technology training and other benefits to veterans. Going forward, the company is collaborating with another non-profit organisation Thurgood Marshall College Fund that supports students enrolled in public historically black colleges and universities (known as HBCUs). Some of these institutes include North Carolina A&T State University, Howard University and Grambling State University. According to reports, Apple, which carries a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy), is not the only tech company donating to these organizations. Microsoft MSFT, Google GOOGL and Symantec Corp. SYMC are also making efforts to bring in gender diversity in collaboration with NCWIT. The Thurgood Marshall College Fund has also received generous contributions from giant entitiess like Wal-Mart WMT and the National Basketball Association (NBA). Further, Intel announced its plan to invest $300 million to develop science and technology education, primarily for girls and minority communities.
