Aug. 4, 2015 - Black Hills Energy is beginning a construction project to upgrade the natural gas distribution system in Columbus, Nebraska.
During the 10-week project, more than 1.5 miles of bare steel natural gas main will be replaced with new polyethylene piping. In addition, Black Hills Energy will partially or totally replace approximately 35 natural gas service lines to individual homes and businesses.
The newer technology is more resistant to corrosion and adaptable to the changing needs of the community. These improvements will maintain system integrity for the utility's 5,200 customers in Columbus.
"We've been a community partner in Columbus for more than 80 years," said Allan 'Chip' Wical, operations supervisor for Black Hills Energy. "This investment is part of our longstanding commitment to provide safe, reliable natural gas service to homes and businesses everywhere we operate."
There will be minimal interruptions in natural gas service to homes and businesses in the area. Black Hills Energy will notify customers of any planned interruptions to minimize the inconvenience. Some streets and alleys may be restricted or closed while the utility completes the work.
Customers can contact Black Hills Energy at 402-371-7195 ext. 14 if they have any questions about this project. Account and other service questions should be directed to Black Hills Energy customer service at 888-890-5554.
