Natural gas meter-move-out project to begin in Germantown
Germantown, Ohio - To improve system reliability for Germantown natural gas customers, Vectren Energy Delivery of Ohio (Vectren) is planning to relocate more than 300 of Germantown's indoor meters to outdoor locations next to customer homes. The Germantown project is one of several gas infrastructure improvements being made during Vectren's multi-year plan to modernize its gas infrastructure throughout Ohio.
Looking back, a common practice of the utility industry was to install indoor gas meters because older-style meters were more stable in a temperature-controlled environment. Today's gas meters have the same accuracy rate whether installed outdoors or indoors. Locating the meters outdoors enables meter readings as well as maintenance and/or repair work to be completed without accessing the customer's property and reduces the immediate danger if a gas leak were to occur.

"One benefit of relocating gas meters to the outside of homes is accurate meter reading and billing. It also greatly diminishes inconveniences to customers who currently must grant access to meter readers," said Colleen Ryan, president of Vectren Energy Delivery - Ohio.
This project is expected to continue through November. Culy Construction, a Vectren contractor, is performing the work, and those customers who are affected will receive a notification letter with information on how to schedule an appointment to have their meter moved.
