Brett Resources Inc. (TSX Venture Exchange - BBR) is pleased to report that diamond drilling at the Hammond Reef Gold Deposit, 23 kilometres north of the town of Atikokan in Northwestern Ontario will start this week. Brett Resources has cash resources of $7 million. Due to the current economic climate, the Company plans to have more focused drill campaigns obtaining and processing results before commencing next phase of drilling. The initial exploration phase will consist of approximately 5,000 metres of diamond drilling. Exploration costs are more reasonable than they were a year ago allowing the Company to reduce its unit costs at the same time as it expands its exploration plans.

In October of 2008, an NI 43-101 technical report by Scott Wilson Roscoe Postle Associates Inc. disclosed an inferred resource at Hammond Reef of approximately 4.8 million ounces of gold at a grade of 1.05 grams per tonne utilizing a 0.6 gram per tonne gold cutoff. A copy of this report can be found on the Company website at www.brettresources.com on the home page or on SEDAR (www.sedar.com) with the Company's other public filings.

The first phase of the 2009 Hammond Reef diamond drill program is designed to explore the southern portion of the Hammond Reef deposit by strategically drilling a number of step-out holes in areas thought to have good potential to extend the resource. In addition, Brett plans to complete two exploration holes designed to test surface mineralization discovered during the exploration programs in 2007 and 2008. Surface channel sampling at these locations identified significant widths of gold mineralization, including 18.2 metres of 1.23 grams per tonne Au within an open ended zone of 46.7 metres of 0.72 grams per tonne Au. These targets are located along the strike but two kilometres northeast of the current deposit.

A summer exploration program is being designed to test our 100 percent Hammond Reef patented claims as well as the contiguous properties that Brett has under option. The objective is to identify new exploration targets and detail known occurrences in preparation for drill investigation.

Brett will continue to collect required baseline information in preparation for an initial Preliminary Economic Assessment (scoping study). Metallurgical testwork indicates that Hammond Reef gold recoveries exceed 90 percent. Additional metallurgical work starting in the first quarter will review ways to improve gold recoveries and evaluate several potential process flowsheet options.

The drill program and the technical studies will guide future activities intended to advance the Hammond Reef deposit towards production. In addition, Brett will expand community consultation efforts, seeking collaboration with all parties interested in the project.
