Gold Targets
Identified by Overburden Drilling, RLX Project, Red Lake, Ontario
Tri
Origin Exploration Ltd. (TOE:TSX-V) is pleased to report
that results have been received from an overburden drilling program conducted
during the summer field season at the Red Lake Extension project located 15
kilometres southeast of Red Lake, Ontario.
Tri Origin’s
overburden drilling program consisted of 23 holes which penetrated overburden
and where possible, underlying bedrock. Samples of glacial till were taken from
each hole, processed into non-magnetic “heavy mineral concentrates”
(HMC) and examined for the presence of gold grains. These samples were also
assayed for their gold and base metal content. In addition, whole rock
geochemical analyses were conducted on selected bedrock samples to determine
their similarities to the gold-hosting rocks of the nearby Red Lake Gold Mining
District. Glacial till sampling in overburden is an exploration technique
useful in evaluating large areas for possible bedrock gold mineralization. In
the program conducted by Tri Origin, it was estimated that noticeable
dispersion of gold above background levels from bedrock sources would be
approximately 500 metres from the source.
Gold grains considered to
represent a background level of abundance were identified in all HMC samples.
One hole sampled contained a low level anomaly in the number of gold grains
relative to the others and another hole contained a gold grain significantly
larger than those identified in the other holes. Results from assaying of HMC
samples were calculated back to the original sample weight of glacial till
samples. Anomalous gold values were returned from 3 of these samples.
Additional exploration will be conducted in the vicinity of these anomalous
samples with a view toward developing diamond drill targets.
Five target areas were
evaluated during the 23 hole program and three of these have been selected for
follow-up exploration including diamond drilling. These target areas tend to
cluster around the central part of Tri Origin’s land holdings. Two other
important target areas near the northwest part of the property were not
accessible to the overburden drill and will be evaluated and diamond drilled if
appropriate during a fall/winter exploration program now being planned.
The RLX property is
100%-owned by Tri Origin and at 24,000 acres is the largest property holding
unexplored for gold in the Red
Lake greenstone belt. The
Red Lake District has produced over 20 million ounces of gold and is host to a
number of important gold deposits including the Red Lake mine currently being
operated by Goldcorp Inc. Tri Origin continues to systematically develop target
areas within its large land holding and test them by drilling.
The program was managed
by Stephen Keays of Overburden Drilling Management Limited (ODM) based in Nepean, Ontario.
Stuart Averill P. Geol. of ODM supervised sampling procedures and laboratory
work. Assaying was conducted by Activation Laboratories Ltd in Ancaster,
Ontario and bedrock geochemical analyses were
conducted by SGS Lakefield Research Limited, Lakefield, Ontario
both certified for the work undertaken.
