The Charlotte, North Carolina-based company said it had a loss of 8 cents per share. Losses, adjusted for costs related to mergers and acquisitions, came to 7 cents per share.
The results fell short of Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of three analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 3 cents per share.
The energy services company posted revenue of $157.8 million in the period.
Piedmont Natural Gas expects full-year earnings in the range of $1.90 to $1.95 per share.
