Rubrique : Or et Argent

One of the best things about writing in the precious metals, economics and sound money space is the fantastic community of like-minded individuals. Everyone is keen to share ideas and articles, which makes it a great way for us to stay-on-top of the latest news and thoughts in this fascinating area of thought.

Below, we bring you some of our favourites. Not all of them are big commentators on precious metals but they all have lots to say on the issues of fiat money, the financial system and the crony capitalism embedded into society. Thanks to all your suggestions, which were all considered. However, we can only mention 12 in our list today.

Max Keiser @maxkeiser

This will be a familiar one to all regular readers of The Real Asset Company’s commentary section. You may be familiar with Max for having me on his show to discuss gold investment or perhaps silver coin demand, but his interests range much further.

Often described as a ‘financial war reporter’, Max is responsible for making thousands, if not millions, of viewers question how our monetary and financial system operates and how we can grab it by both hands to make it work for us.

A) taper continues and there’s a flight to safety to gold. B) taper is reversed and there’s a flight to cash in on $ debasement into gold.

— Max Keiser (@maxkeiser) February 3, 2014

Stacy Herbert @stacyherbert

The one to watch when it comes to the Keiser Report and all the top programmes on alternative investments, finance and money. Stacy Herbert is more than Max’s wife and co-presenter as she is the writer and producer for not only the Keiser Report but other top shows out there (GetREAL anyone?). When Keiser Report is the first to break news of Jamie Dimon’s antics or Germany’s lost gold, it is thanks to Stacy’s hard work and thirst for information that you hear about it from her and Max before the mainstream decide you don’t need to hear it. She is also responsible for bringing you the latest names (who then go on to be top names) in cryptocurrencies, Austrian economics and alternative investment experts.

Dow down 7% this year; all those investors who missed out on the boom only to pile in for the decline. #Crowd #Herd — Stacy Herbert (@stacyherbert) February 3, 2014

Jim Rickards @JamesGRickards

We’ve got a bit of a soft spot for Mr Rickards here, something which may not have slipped your attention. The Real Asset Co has followed his commentary for some time but it was the 2011 release of his seminal book, Currency Wars, which really grabbed everyone’s attention. With a background about as varied as Max Keiser’s wardrobe, Jim is able to bring a wealth of insight into the monetary system with a particular focus on currency wars. This insight is also balanced, something which is key in a space that can often seem as sensationalised as the mainstream media it fights so hard against.

@Silverbull21 That paper #gold outweighs physical #gold 100:1 is old news. What’s new is physical going from bank-to-private vaults. — Jim Rickards (@JamesGRickards) February 3, 2014

Lauren Lyster @LaurenLyster

This financial journalist first came to our attention when she was the anchor of the fantastic Capital Account, on RT. Now she has left the ground-breaking show, to move onto better things over at Yahoo Finance as the face of the Daily Ticker.

She continues to bring us top financial stories and some of the best interviews with the top names out there as Ms Lyster is not afraid to ask questions that we want to know the answers to. A definite go-to one-stop shop for those who are looking for a bite-size mouthful of what’s going on in the financial world and who you should be listening to.

Interesting it was a unanimous decision to taper another $10B. #fomc

World Gold Council @GOLDCOUNCIL

A tricky one to mention in the gold-space but one we believe is a must-follow resource on Twitter. The self-styled ‘World Gold Council’ is a lobby group for mining companies around the world but from our perspective it does a whole lot more. Research produced is in a class of its own and much of their work goes into facilitating gold investment, manufacturing and other uses for gold across the world.

There has been much talk, particularly by Eric Sprott, as to the validity of the figures that are published in the WGC’s reports. There is much sense and validity in this, however a group which works to bring gold to the attention of many individuals is worth paying attention to. And some of their Friday Facts are too good to be missed.

The Royal Mint @RoyalMintUK

As a Brit, I love that we have a ‘Royal’ Mint and I’m going to take a punt and say it is one of the oldest mints in the world (if not the oldest). Which makes it even more fantastic that it has a great Twitter stream and blog. This week, for example the pictures popping up on my Twitter feed have been a visual feast thanks to the live-tweeting going on at the Trial of the Pyx. Other than shiny pictures, what else can you expect? Some great historical facts, news on the latest coins and they’ll even answer your questions about mintages, coin issues and fun facts. Whether you’re interested in tradition and coins or not, Mints are making headlines on a daily basis and so following a couple will do you no harm as coin demand grows in the world of gold investment.

Mises Economic Blog @MisesBlog

I’m lumping both Mises Tweeters together, but that’s not to say that they’re not both worth following. Whether you’re of the Austrian economic persuasion or not then it still worth paying attention to Mises’ school of thought anyway. The blog has some of the best economists and thought-leaders contributing, analysing current economic problems from the perspective of an Austrian economist, a view that is very often dismissed as old fashioned. Follow the Institute as well for the latest events and news in the School

Mark Thornton @DrMarkThornton

I’ll be honest, I hadn’t come across Dr Mark Thornton until one of the Research Desk minions told me about him. But now I’ve started following him I wish I has discovered him sooner.

An Austrian economist and senior fellow of the Ludwig von Mises Insititute, his Twitter stream is great for getting the best links to the top commentary from this school of thought. If you can forgive his fairly bossy orders to ‘RETWEET’ then this is well worth dedicating one of those precious ‘follow’ clicks to.

Hal @gold_tracker

Hal was one of the first Tweeters I started following and I always make sure to look out for his tweets. Whilst he does no commentary of his own, it is the links he sends (often via Scoopit) that are always worth a ‘click.’

If I’m every feeling a bit out of the gold and silver loop then I know I can rely on Hal’s twitter feed to bring me right up back to date. And don’t worry, the links aren’t just a Google-esque dump of all things precious metals. Instead, they are a very well refined resource for some of the best commentary and news out there on gold prices, silver mining and the top news in this space.

Jesse Colombo @TheBubbleBubble

Are you following this man? If not, why not? Stop reading this silly list and find him on Twitter. Click ‘follow’ and then come back to me so I can tell you why you were right to do that. Credited with predicting the financial crisis this man is the go-to commentator on bubbles. And if there are any issues in the system today, then big bubbles is it. Pay attention to him so you can get to grips with bubble-mania and find out how to ride the wave when the whole illusion goes ‘bang’.

Mark my words: when the post-09 bubble era ends, much of our “earnings” growth will turn out to be bubble profits like in 2003-2007. — Jesse Colombo (@TheBubbleBubble) February 4, 2014

Renegade Economist @RenegadeEcon

We first brought the Renegade Economist to your attention back in 2011 when we were lucky enough to see a preview of their film, the Four Horsemen. The film looked at the four elements that were threatening the foundations of the global construct. It wasn’t just another film on what happened in the financial crisis and baddy bankers but instead took issues right to the root cause – fiat money. What’s more, it didn’t lecture you and it introduced several concepts of thought surrounding the global financial crisis, allowing the viewer to make up their own mind.

Whilst the film may be a couple of years old it is still valid and it brings to you some of the top commentators from a variety of areas. Today, we regularly visit the Renegade Economist’s website to read commentary from someone of the best and inquisitive minds out there. There are often fantastic interviews as well. All of this is part of the Renegade Economist’s mission – ‘to desert the current financial system to create another advocating social justice and the equal distribution of opportunity. A self-taught entrepreneur who understands the game’
