AMANTA ACQUIRES A THIRD FORMER
HIGH-GRADE TUNGSTEN MINE IN THAILAND
December 27, 2007. Vancouver, Canada - Amanta Resources Ltd. (Amanta)
is pleased to report that the Department of Primary Industry and Mining (DPIM), Thailand, has granted the Company a Special Prospecting Licence (SPL), covering an area of approx. 14 km2, at Mae Chedi, a former high grade tungsten mine in the province of Chiang Rai. The SPL is valid for a period of 5 years and gives Amanta the exclusive right to apply for a Mining Licence.
With the issue of this SPL, Amanta has now acquired 100% interests in three former tungsten mines, Mae Chedi, Mae Lama and Doi Ngom. These properties hosted some of Thailands more prolific, high grade tungsten mines prior to the collapse of world tungsten prices in the mid-1980s, which forced the closure of many of the worlds tungsten producers.
The Mae Chedi property is located northeast of Chiang Mai, close to the main highway connecting Chiang Mai with Chiang Rai. A tungsten ore (scheelite), associated with cassiterite (tin) occurs in quartz veins and stockworks in granitic rocks and in the contact zone between these and carboniferous mafic intrusives. The ore is also disseminated in both the granites and mafic intrusives.
The Mae Chedi mine operated as a gravel pump (hydraulic) mine during the 1970s, producing a tungsten/tin concentrate. Contrary to common practice during these years, the mine owners completed a rock sampling survey over much of the mine area. The results of this survey indicated an extended anomalous zone covering up to 30 hectares, over which combined tungsten/tin values of 0.3% were measured.
Amanta has initiated a rock and soil sampling programme (on a 500m x 500m grid) to confirm these anomalous values. Early results have shown large areas underlain by rocks with anomalous tungsten and tin values, including a very extensive area anomalous in tin (with assay values of up to 1.5% tin) and a smaller anomalous tungsten area with assay values of up to 7% WO3. Further detailed work will be required to define any mineable resource and Amanta proposes to commence extensive exploration activities, including an initial drilling programme, early in 2008.
Recent exploration results from Mae Lama and Doi Ngom have also been very encouraging and Amanta is currently evaluating the economic potential of each of these properties. At Doi Ngom, a breccia-hosted ferberite deposit, shallow reconnaissance drilling has yielded tungsten grades of up to 1.8% WO3, over a one metre intercept, in one drill hole and a number of lower grade intersections of up to 10 metres in other holes.
At Mae Lama, a quartz vein wolframite deposit, the drilling of three cored holes into the former production vein (the Mae Lama vein) has confirmed tungsten mineralisation to a depth of at least 200 metres within the vein. Assay results for these drill holes are expected shortly.
Each of Amantas tungsten properties is located in northern Thailand, in close proximity to each other and to Thailands second largest city, Chiang Mai. During 2008, Amanta proposes to fully evaluate the potential for the early resumption of tungsten production from one or more of the properties.
Geological Information contained within this report has been verified by Pieter Bakker (Director, Executive VP Amanta Resources Ltd.). Mr. Bakker satisfies the requirements of a Qualified Person as defined in the National Instrument 43-101 (Standards of Disclosure for Mineral Projects).
Amanta Resources Ltd. is focused on mineral exploration, development and production in Thailand and the Southeast Asian region. The Company concentrates on the systematic evaluation of known mineral occurrences, rather than "greenfields" exploration, creating early opportunities to finance and develop mines.
