I got it right away ! The answer is: a stainless steel quarter ~ even though there was no question. If you have a silver quarter, you can still get a gallon of gas for a quarter !

Maybe it's not just nature restoring the balance. It could be the Shemitah (see Jonathan Cahn's book "The Mystery of the Shemitah").

Excellent writing Mr. Kunstler - worthy of my continued support of your Patreon Page. I urge others to do so as well. I would only ask that you please clone yourself several times so we can get such excellent reporting and commentary on the many fronts of relevant topics needing such an airing. Keep up the good work as our Republic depends on it.

 The Great Conundrum  (3)
 - James Howard Kunstler -
Some ALTERNATE SYSTEMS already exist. Two examples are Craigslist and ebay ~ which are like a Trader's and Bargainer's Paradise. One brand new, still in the box ALTERNATIVE to the system is just now becoming visible: Jesse Ventura For Prez ~ on the Green Party ticket. I'm sure, as The Workable Options outside the current (and failing) system arise; those In Control of The Current System will do everything in their power to STOP those Workable Alternatives. The AFFORDABLE "Tiny Home" OPTION to EXPENSIVE housing couldn't be stopped by "The Market" so it was made ILLEGAL ~ using Zoning Laws ~ by those in Power and Control of the Current System. See how that works James ? If it works it will be made illegal. In some towns Garage Sales have been restricted to two weekends a year and a $25 FEE must be paid. Try being a broke-but-trying-to-survive entrepreneur under those conditions. Yes; several unresolved conflicts ALREADY exists. Since The Powerful are PUSHING THEIR AGENDA TO THE MAX it becomes inevitable the conflict will ESCALATE. When enough people arrive at the "Nothing to Loose" stage, the two opposing views will fight it out. It's gonna be big. People are armed and dangerous and stepped on too long.

Gypsy, I think a mule will cost you twice that up front, and about $1000 per year to feed, plus farrier and vet calls to keep it healthy. Of course, if you have a big enough pasture, you don't have to pay out of pocket to feed it, but then you aren't growing food for humans on that land either.

James; comparing those mules to my top-of-the-line roto-tiller ~ they are about the same price: $800. My tiller will till a half acre garden on a gallon of gas. That's a twice a year event. We could probably find 2 gallons of gas a year. Unless the mule is gonna double as transportation, you might not need a mule.

Slogging through into the Next System will require a way to prevent yourself from being killed for the stores of food you manufacture and put in your root cellar. It's a quandary: growing food so you don't die or dying to protect the food you grow. If a person can survive that: food production is the Next Big System ! ! !

Didn't Congress and The Prez print up those trillions so there won't BE a system change ??

 The Great Conundrum  (3)
 - James Howard Kunstler -
How does society deal with 90% of the population suddenly being useless in a world made by hand? What do all those ad execs and fashionistas in the cities do when the time is right for fighting in the streets? If farmers can't be paid for feeding the masses in the cities, why continue? These are the questions that I'd like to see addressed. The bill comes due, and the system must clear the imbalance, but it is going to be mighty painful. Sticking it to The Man is all well and good, until you find out that you are the man.

I think James' model of the collapse is slightly off. He is correct that the pandemic did not cause the collapse, the lockdown did. But what is the root cause, why were the dominoes so perfectly set for collapse? I think it was the central banks inflating the economy ever higher until the balloon popped in 2008. Then they began inflating at a new rate of several trillion a year to compensate for the giant hole in the balloon. Now the balloon has another hole, and the CB's will do the only thing they can, pump more money. Some people close to the spigot will get rich on the flow of cash, but by the time it gets to the common folks, it won't be worth much. SSDD.
