Does Gold Keep up in Hyperinflation
Inflation is anatural consequence of loose government monetary policy. If those policies get too loose, hyperinflation can occur. As gold investors,we'd like to know if the precious metals would keep pace in this extreme scenario. Hyperinflation is an extremely rapid period of inflation, but when does inflation (which can be manageable) cross the line and become out-of-control hyperinflation? PhilipCagan, one of the very first researchers of this phenomenon, defines hyperinflation as "an inflation rate of 50% or more in a single month, "something largely inconceivable to the average investor.

  Hyperinflation around the Globe
Angola (1991-1999) Angola went through the worst inflation from 1991 to 1995. In early 1991, the highest denomination was 50,000 kwanzas. By 1994, it was 500,000 kwanzas. In the 1995 currency reform, 1 kwanza reajustado was exchanged for 1,000 kwanzas. The highest denomination in 1995 was 5,000,000 kwanzas reajustados. In the 1999 currency reform, 1 new kwanza was exchanged for 1,000,000 kwanzas reajustados. The overall impact of hyperinflation: 1 new kwanza = 1,000,000,000 pre-1991 kwanzas.

The Amazing Amount of Gold The U.S. Exported Since 2000
The U.S. exported a stunning amount of gold since the turn of the century.  As the price of gold surged along with the massive increase in U.S. debt, gold exports jumped to record highs.  In 2012 alone, the United States exported nearly 700 metric tons of gold.  The total amount of U.S. net gold exports over the past 17 years equaled the combined gold reserves of six high ranking countries. While the U.S. exported nearly 8,000 metric tons (mt) of gold since 2001, it also imported a great deal as

Tether is a “stablecoin” which aims to maintain a value of one US dollar per tether. It it connected to Bitfinex and created by officers from the company, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges in the world. Tether Limited claims that Tether is backed by reserves of U.S. dollars on a one-to-one basis. But some are claiming that Tether is not backed by dollars and is created out of thin air in order to pump the price of Bitcoin higher. They claim that Tether is a scam that will implode and c

Since January 2013 we have been using the worldwide Semiconductor Equipment industry as a leader within the Semiconductor sector, which is an economic cyclical leader itself. That month we noted a positive move in Equipment bookings, which became a (3 month) trend that spring. This trend was used to project positive economic signals to come.Through some turbulence in 2014 and 2015 the sector has remained on ‘economic up’ along with our cross reference indicator, the Palladium/Gold ratio right up

Bubble Watch: US Margin Debt Now Equal the Economy of Taiwan
When Central Banks attempted to corner the sovereign bond market via ZIRP and QE, they forced ALL risk in the financial system to adjust lower. Remember, in a fiat-based monetary system such as the one used by the world today, sovereign bonds NOT gold are the ultimate backstop for the financial system. And for the US, which controls the reserve currency of the world, sovereign bonds, also called Treasuries, represent the “risk-free” rate of return for the entire world. So when the Fed moved to c

Nine!
Wow, I can hardly believe it's been nine years. Where the heck has the time gone, and where the heck is Freegold? ;D A little more than two years ago, I changed format to an NFF (not-for-free) blog in order to keep me enthused and engaged, and more importantly, to keep out the trolls. I wished FOA had done that rather than quitting, so that's how I view it. I have hundreds of subscribers, and when they quit, so will I. The Freegold Speakeasy now has 100 posts and 20,000 comments. Global Currency Reserve at Risk
Within the US borders, the population remains largely ignorant of the true significance of the global currency reserve concept. It is of paramount importance, yet almost never discussed in the financial press. The public within the United States simply assumes the country operates with the USDollar as its currency, with near blindness to its global role in trade and banking. The end of an era is coming, as the change will be powerful in its effect. The shock wave could hit this year in some form

Another Major, Near-Term Reason To Own Precious Metals…Crypto-Currency!
Without peer, Zero Hedge is the best alternative financial media website on the planet.  It has been this way for years; and without it, I couldn’t do my job as effectively.  However, they are not perfect; and consequently, I have been “blackballed” from Zero Hedge since calling “Tyler Durden” out, way back in 2011 – for not giving enough credence to Precious Metals manipulation; or subsequently, understanding how the reason his website is so popular is because gold price suppression has enabled

WannaCry Cyber Attack Hits 99 Countries, FedEx, Nissan, Hospitals, Universities with NSA Developed Malware: Five Questions
The National Security Administration (NSA ) has its hands in the biggest ransomware cyber attack in history. The NSA found holes in the Windows operating systems and instead of alerting Microsoft it chose to exploit those holes for its own benefit. The problem with such an approach is the NSA is not the only one who can exploit the holes. At least 70 countries have been hit. Xi Sizes Up Trump: Investment Implications - Peter Diekmeyer
China is the world’s largest gold producer and buyer. So President Xi Jinping’s takeaways in the wake of his recent meeting with Donald Trump, his U.S. counterpart, have huge market implications. China, steeped in a 5,000-year history, tends to think in longer time frames than Western countries. Their leaders are thus less likely to act impulsively. That’s a good thing for Trump. Because in Xi’s eyes, the U.S. President almost certainly came off as a vacillating showman who acts tough, but lacks

The Relentless Push Towards War
The only real constant to be found in both European and US politics is war.  A steady feature of both regions for the past 20+ years has been small, lucrative conflicts waged against countries unable to effectively defend themselves.  It doesn’t seem to matter who’s in office in the US -- Republican/Democrat, conservative/liberal -- there’s a war machine constantly running. My concern is that there's a building risk that one day that war machine is going to bust apart. And when it does, the long

The Daily Market Report: Gold Rebounds Above $1250
USAGOLD/Peter A. Grant/04-03-17 Gold has rebounded to trade back above the $1250 level, helped by ongoing concerns about the underlying health of the U.S. economy and the resulting risk aversion. Political uncertainty, both in the U.S. and Europe, along with rising geopolitical tensions are contributing factors as well. We made note of this in this morning’s Snapshot, but a Zerohedge article has a nice chart from Bloomberg that shows the total return performance of major global financial assets
