NAIROBI:
Kenya’s inflation rate rose for the 13th month in a row in November to
a higher-than-expected 19.72 per cent, raising the chances the central bank
might opt for a small interest rate rise this week.
The consensus forecast in a Reuters poll was for
inflation to come in at 19.55 per cent versus 18.91 per cent year-on-year in
October, with analysts also saying the central bank was likely to leave rates
unchanged.
The Kenya National Bureau of Statistics said the consumer price index rose
1.52 per cent in November from a month earlier, after a 1.57 per cent
month-on-month increase in October, with higher food and fuel prices the main
factors.
