The political left in America is outraged at Clint Eastwood’s recent presentation at the GOP convention. The shock and disbelief of Rachel Maddow at MSNBC and the Blitzer gang at CNN is heavy with condemnation of this inimitable American icon.

The establishment media response has basically come down as follows: “Weirdest thing I’ve ever seen.” “What was he thinking?” “Have the Republicans gone daft?” “The Democrats must have sent Clint to the GOP so as to sabotage their convention.” “This was inexcusably disrespectful.”

Yes, indeed, it was disrespectful. But what kind of humans allow themselves to be enslaved by a Marxist mandarin and his bureaucratic henchmen with a smile on their face and kind words about their enslavers? Craven humans, that’s who! Obedient victims who, as Ayn Rand told us, “sanction their enslavement.” And unfortunately that is what the American people have become, obedient sanctioners who are willing to give up their freedom with a smile on their face and kind words for the usurpers in Washington who are so zealously destroying the freedom and sanity of our lives.

Did Thomas Jefferson, Samuel Adams, and Patrick Henry play nice-nice with King George? Did they remain respectful to the tyrants who were ruining their lives? They most certainly did not. They declared the English tyrant to be a corrupt and criminal despot. They rallied their countrymen to spring up in rebellion. They stood up for their fundamental rights, as all courageous men and women do when faced with despotic bullies. They did what the valiant Chinese student did in Tiananmen Square when he stood in front of those monstrous approaching tanks.

If Jefferson, Adams, and Henry were alive today, they would have been cheering Clint on with vigorous enthusiasm. But what do we see from today’s mealy-mouth media? We see a rush to defend the tyrant mandarins in Washington and smear the rebel Eastwood. We see squawking and crying and yelps of protest. But what we really see is what lurks in the subconscious of the establishment media – fear that their Emperor is as buck naked as Dirty Harry portrayed him. This is why the vacuities at CNN and MSNBC are so outraged. Eastwood pierced deeply. He showed Mr. Obama and the empty suit Biden up for precisely what they are.

This is what disrespect is, and why it is so important when a people are confronting tyrants. Those who obey their masters and play nice-nice with tyrannical regimes live miserable lives as doormats. Those recalcitrant rebels who boldly proclaim their disrespect for the despots of history have a chance to live in freedom. They might still get squashed; the tanks might still roll over them. But they at least know that they stood up for freedom and honor in their time. They know that they did the right thing, the manly thing, not the craven, accommodative thing. When bullies are breaking the cardinal laws of life and exploiting their fellow man (which is what the statists in Washington have been doing for over 80 years now), then there is only one course of action for honorable men – disrespectcourageous, colorful disrespect.

This is what Clint Eastwood did on August 30, 2012 in Tampa. He did the honorable thing – the manly thing. He heaped contempt on the statist mandarins in Washington. He did not lay down and play nice-nice with them. He did not try to compromise with them. He did not pacify them so as to be popular. He excoriated them with his words and his attitude.

In his advice to America’s young men, the twentieth century poet E. Merrill Root wrote, “I would ask you again to dream and dare, and thus to ride again the stallion of manhood whose back is known only by those who with a brave heart grasp the mane of life and ride bareback and shouting even in God’s thunderstorm.”

Reality demands this from man, but the collectivists are at war with it. Thus their feminizing of our men today. This is not by accident. The collectivists want a neutered man; it makes their drive for world domination all the easier. What is horrifying is that large numbers of obedient men now welcome this travesty. To be forceful, unflinching, and self-reliant in face of life’s vicissitudes no longer appeals. Modern psychology tells us that the virile Clark Gable / Clint Eastwood persona is unhealthy for society. Dustin Hoffman is to be preferred. Softness is correct; toughness is detrimental. But this is decadence masquerading as progress.

The crucible of life demands that men strive to fulfill their natures, that they stand heroically in face of adversity, that they defend the female and family with gallantry in face of the subtleties of evil. The real man welcomes this and refuses to apologize for his toughness and masculinity, his stoic steel will. For him egalitarianism and collectivism are living death. Early in life he knows instinctively that he hates the amoeba-like image of man with which Marxian-Freudian collectivism is trying to poison his soul. He loathes what the professors in college teach him. The real man senses early on that, in the words of General MacArthur, “there is a constant conspiracy against the brave” in this world. The herd mentalities of humanity wish to neuter manliness, for it stands in their way of collectivizing the world. Thus it must be purged from our lessons to the young. The real man resolves to fight this. He chooses to be in life what in essence he must be – a warrior for truth, a rock of granite, a seeker, a builder, a hero.

Clint Eastwood has exemplified such traits all his life. The weasels dislike him, and the naked emperors try to smear him with sociobabble. But there is a strain of man out there that knows his kind are the Atlases who hold up the world, that America was exceptional because she unleashed such men to climb as tall as they could dream. What we need so desperately today is for these kind of men to rise up and show massive disrespect toward the despots of Washington. Hoorah for Clint Eastwood.

Thanks, Mr. Hultberg, that was truly inspiring.

They say respect the office, even though you don't respect the holder, but the office has been so demeaned by its recent occupants that it has become impossible to respect either. Clint Eastwood was right on target. He was not just acting lines- he was speaking from the heart- and what a heart. I'm amazed he was allowed to say that by the Republican Fascists, but it "made our day." It wasn't even so partisan.

Foreigners, don't fret, all real Americans got what Clint was saying, immediately and intuitively. His empty chair metaphor has caused much merriment and creative artwork lately. We don't really care whether you get it or not. Jerks like AKA "Obama" need to be slapped down very hard, but our traitorous, wimpified so-called "leadership" has utterly failed to accomplish that. It's our country and we will try to set it right. Many of the forces behind the scenes controlling our land originate in Europe, with domestic allies. They are the same forces destroying the dollar and attempting to impose worldwide collectivism.

Yeah, we've gotta let Obama go, with little regret. Granted, the most likely replacement is not so good, but at least he doesn't hate America, free enterprise, our traditions and customs. He's straight, loves God, understands business/finance, had a real job, drug-free, less of an egomaniac. Maybe now, people will better understand why John Jay worked to get Article II Section 1 Clause 5 inserted in our Constitution.

Let's roll!

Writing from an English point of view...thank God some of you understand the difference between an 'ACTOR' and the roles he plays and real life. Here in Europe we watch US politics with a kind of amused horror. How can politics have ever become so simplistic that when an actor who has played sadistic hard men all his life, stands up and quotes from a film whilst criticising the party in power...everyone seems to think that a major blow has been landed? Mystified. It's also beyond comprehension to me that the writer calls Obama a marxist whilst not acknowledging that it was actually the Republicans that turned Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac into the world's largest socialist state housing project AND initiated the TARP which turned banking into the most subsidised socialist industry in history. Healthcare is the last of your problems...at least you all benefit from that. Furthermore the audit of the Fed this week revealed that your own federal reserve lied about the true extent and recipients of the bailout. You have all donated 16 TRILLION dollars to banks all over the world without even being consulted. These guys aren't even elected. Romney was on a yacht flying a Cayman Islands flag this week being wined and dined by his donors. Do you REALLY GENUINELY believe that he is the one to strike a blow against the elitists that are robbing you blind?

We here in America also watch US politics with a kind of amused horror. However, it is somewhat less amusing due to its proximity.

While much of what you say is true and a revolt is underway to rectify much of that; notwithstanding European nations have very little to crow about. Obama is simply getting on board with the European model. The British like the USA has a few lone voices warning of the results that lay in store for wealth redistribution train wrecks however only a very few. Nigel Farage, while still somewhat of a socialist, at least recognizes what a government who over taxes and over regulates small businesses does to an economy. More than sixty per cent of a gallon of petrol in the UK is tax. The French are raising a generation of loafers and will more than likely go the way of Spain with its orgy of debt. Germany under the leadership of a reformed communist will drain its treasury attempting the bailing out Europe’s black holes.
It is true that there is not a dimes worth of difference between Romney and Obama and I look for an all time low voter turnout in November with your hero Obama winning. People know how wrong the government has gone and are attempting to turn around there own train wreck, however it is too late and a collapse and new start will happen after the war with Iran begins. The Europeans will be in the thick of the war as well. And while many actors don't have a clue, Eastwood has as much right as anyone to voice his own views. He admonishes everyone to vote intelligently. I do the same for you.

Eastwood's speech was scripted and approved by the GOP leadership ahead of time like all the other speeches given at the GOP convention; however he appeared to change his speech and what he agreed to say and what he really wanted to say seems blurred. At the end he states something that I feel sure was not what the GOP wanted him to say:
“ I am speaking out for everybody out there …. What I am saying is we don't have to be mental masochist and vote for somebody we really don't want in there in office just because they seem to be nice guys or not so nice guys ….. Make my day.”
The part that maybe questionable is the use of the chair because of all the ramrodding that was done to the grassroots who objected to rule changes at the convention. To quote after voice votes that were not in the majority or at least to close to call House Speaker Boener said “the ayes have it” in the opinion of the “chair”. Here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hla-3ZOBTXk&feature=youtu.be he was reading for the teleprompter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77W5OKStO5s&feature=youtu.be . It didn't matter what the vote would have been it was decided ahead of time that the “ayes” would have it. The Demos are not to be out done by the Republican and followed with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cncbOEoQbOg&feature=youtu.be
The common grassroots people have seldom been in charge. "Naturally the common people don't want war; neither in Russia, nor in England, nor in America, nor in Germany. That is understood. But after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” Hermann Goering

Eastwood is intelligent enough to say what he wanted to say and still keep his agreement and not give all the lawyers in the world something that would give him a bad time. I personally feel he didn't indorse anyone wholeheartedly. Maybe he didn't like the proceedings of the convention either where the “chair” over ruled the peoples objections.

When Clint Eastwood denigrated the president during the Republican National Convention, the assumption was made that he therefore endorses Romney's bid for president. Since Romney is the epitome of a pure political cartoon who will do and agree to anything to become president, how can Eastwood's message be considered wise counsel? Everything Eastwood says he stands for is discredited by his support of Romney for president.

I agree. Interesting how on the next day, media "experts" said it was confusing, rambling, terrible, couldn't grasp it, blah, blah, blah. Yet when discussed with neighbors and friends, just average joes, they all "got it" immediately and loved it.

The entire Clint Eastwood speech, to the Republican National Convention, is posted on YouTube. It's easy to find. I note that Clint is speaking to ALL Americans ~ rather than "just" to Republicans.

Bravo Mr. Hultberg, bravo! If we could only find 535 Clint Eastwoods and Clintess Eastwoods and send them to Washington to make illegal the lobbying, unlimited campaign donations, special retirement, special health insurance terms, book deals, insider trading privileges, special traveling trips and the countless other privileges granted by previous "club" members, we just might have a chance at the freedom we seek. Then, take back the role of managing the monetary system and actually tax to pay for what they spend instead of borrowing from future generations and we might begin to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Of course too much tax would get them voted out! Debt is slavery and limits future generations' ability to be creative and free. By allowing the current system to continue we are shooting our body politic in it's preverbial foot.

I loved the shenanigans at the GOP convention, Clint Eastwood's speech AND the group marching and chanting "As Maine goes, so goes the Nation"! in protest of the underhandedness of the tired old elephant. I too, am tired of the mealy mouthed enslaved who just want a nice party and say, "Oh you must vote for Romney because the Country can't stand four more years of Obama". Well lukewarm isn't good enough as the great teacher and spirit is reported to have said.

Thank you for writing and sharing this eloquent and discerning essay.
