>The Gold/Silver Ratio - Gold, Silver, and their Relationship  - Dan Popescu - GoldBroker
Great in depth look at the Gold to Silver ratio. I disagree that the ratio is not likely to revert or even surpass the historic average because of the fact that the Silver market could easily be subjected to a competitive bidding war between industrial users and silver investors. I do buy into the "poor man's gold" label of silver and as Gold will continue to rise in price, gold will become unattainable to the average investor and will look at silver as an alternate. At the same time the industrial uses of silver will continue to multiply particularly for it's anti-microbial properties which are being explored more than ever before. I think it is important to recognize that for most of history when the Gold to Silver ratio was around 15 to 1 that Silver was not consumed the way it is today. Given the enormous silver stock-piles that have been consumed over the past few decades, I just don't see how we can not get to a point where silver will become so scarce that it will have to rise significantly more in price than Gold. I suppose it could take another decade or more for the scarcity to really have an impact on the price of Silver but I would be surprised if longer term the Gold to Silver ratio will not reflect the growing scarcity of silver.

Thanks for your insight and the very informative article.
