Diamonds North Expands Amaruk Exploration Program Bulk Samples &
Drill Testing 60 New Targets
======================================================================
VANCOUVER, May 24th, 2007 - Diamonds North Resources Ltd. (TSX-V: DDN)
announces plans to expand the exploration program on the Amaruk
property, in the Pelly Bay
Diamond District of Nunavut.
In response to the recently released high
Diamond counts from the Char
and Qavvik kimberlites, plans are underway to collect larger bulk
samples from each of these kimberlites. The expanded bulk sample
program will increase the project's 2007 budget to approximately $6
million, up from the previously approved $4 million exploration
program. In addition to bulk sampling two kimberlites, the program will
include drill testing of 60 new targets.
"I believe that the design of this year's exploration program will
cement Amaruk's position as the foremost
Diamond exploration project in
Canada and further demonstrate its potential for a major
Diamonddeposit similar to the Ekati and Diavik
Diamond mines," says Mark
Kolebaba, President and CEO of Diamonds North Resources Ltd.
Bulk Sampling
High
Diamond counts - 178 diamonds from 159.35 kilograms of Char and
606 diamonds from 457 kilograms of Qavvik - plus an abundance of good
quality stones warrants increasing the bulk sample sizes to 6 to 10
tonnes from 3 to 5 tonnes, for each body. Core drilling is expected to
begin in June. Drill core will be processed for diamonds using dense
media separation.
The objective of the bulk sample is to obtain a representative
Diamondsize distribution for the Char and Qavvik kimberlites to assess their
economic potential.
Drill Testing 60 New Targets
Approximately 580 geophysical targets have been identified on the
Amaruk property. A plan to conduct detailed geophysics over
approximately 200 of these targets is being implemented. The Company
intends to drill up to 60 of the most compelling targets this year.
The objective of the 2007 exploration drill program is to discover
additional diamondiferous kimberlites for economic assessment.
2007 Pelly Bay Region Mobilization
Mobilization for the project is nearly complete. Numerous Hercules and
Convair flights have arrived on site with supplies and equipment.
Approximately 140 Twin Otter flights have positioned supplies and fuel
mobilized to the project by barge in late 2006. Additional supplies
were recently transported into Kugaaruk using a Boeing 737. Camp has
been opened and crews have arrived.
Bruce Kienlen (P.Geol) and Graham Gill (P. Geo) are Diamonds North's
qualified persons reviewing these projects. They are responsible for
the design and conduct of the exploration programs and the verification
and quality assurance of analytical results.
Diamonds North is the dominant explorer in the Pelly Bay region and is
focused on discovering Canada's next
Diamond mine. Diamonds North is
well-financed with over $14 million in cash and marketable securities.
The Company is rapidly evolving and committed to building long-term
value through ongoing
Diamond discoveries.
